Citadel del Qaitbay
- Citadel of Qaitbay is located on the Mediterranean coast on the ruins of one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria.
- The fortress was founded in 1477 by the Mamluk sultan of the Bruit dynasty, Al-Ashraf Safi Al-Din Qaitbay. It is believed that the fortress originated on the site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, and even more—the remains of the lighthouse were used in its construction.
Pompey’s Pillar
- Pompey’s Pillar is a Roman triumphal column in Alexandria and the largest of its kind built outside the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople. The only known free-standing column in Roman Egypt that was not composed of drums, it is one of the largest ancient monoliths and one of the largest monolithic columns ever erected.
- The monolithic shaft of the column measures 20.46 m in height with a diameter of 2.71 m at the base. The weight of the single piece of red Aswan granite is estimated at 285 tons. The column is 26.85 m high, including its base and capital. Erroneously dated to the time of Pompey, the Corinthian column was actually built in 297 AD to commemorate the victory of the Roman emperor Diocletian over an Alexandrian revolt.
Alexandria Roman Theater
- Alexandria Roman theater, which was built in the early 1st century AD by the Nabataeans and enlarged and improved by the Romans shortly after their annexation of the Kingdom in 106 AD. They achieved this by ruthlessly splitting a street of houses or tombs to extend the rear of the auditorium, which could then seat 3000 people.
